How to Solve Homelessness
There are posts on Eclogiselle about homelessness. The post Addressing Homelessness is listed under the tag development.recipes and points to Project SRO.
TLDR of many years of research and writing on the topic of homelessness:
Trying to "help the homeless" tends to keep it stuck.
Trying to reduce incidence of homelessness would get better results.
Studies show that upwards of 90 percent of the cause of homelessness is:
***Dramatic drum roll...***
Lack of affordable housing.
Yes, yes, that's a SHOCKING plot twist no one could have predicted and I continue to be told I'm WRONG and it's entirely because homeless people are drug addicts and mental health cases AKA LAZY and should just try HARDER.
(Or, you know, I would be still getting told that if I participated on social media or any online forums.)
If you are Someone Who Matters:
Read the post linked above, then send Project SRO to a few local commercial developers. Who will likely get positive press while going internally "I'm going to make a MINT!"
Let people solve homelessness for a profit instead of out of COMPASSION and out of the goodness of their hearts (TM) awwwwww, and get out of the way.
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup.
(That's the ACTUAL American Way: Enlightened self interest. Before it became MAGA and MERIKA. But we don't have meaningful education anymore, so we have forgotten that.)
